Conclusion

Over the last few months there’s been lots of activity from AMD. The release of their 300 series and R9 Fury/X has provoked plenty of intrigue. While the Fury X wasn’t quite able to triumph over the GTX 980Ti, we’ve seen from today’s battle that a factory overclocked R9 Fury certainly gains the upper-hand against a vanilla GTX 980.

Sporting the new DirectCU III cooling solution, the ASUS R9 Fury DC3 OC not only supplies some impressive temperature figures but it’s also extremely quiet too. One particular highlight for us is the default option for the cooling fans to cease spinning if the GPU fails to exceed 65C – so for standard tasks and light usage the graphics card will emit absolutely no noise at all.

A factory overclock ensures that in almost all benchmarks this R9 Fury the victor in the GTX 980 vs R9 Fury debate. Boasting strong specifications and the freshly devices HBM technology also means that 4K gaming is well-catered for.

STRIX R9 Fury DC3 OC is priced at £450 GBP / $569 USD – a price point which is very similar to that of the rival GTX 980. Do bear in mind though that, at least for the moment, DC3 is available to only the R9 Fury and GTX 980Ti and along with it come stunning aesthetics, low-noise, decent temperatures, high-quality components, and a 3 year warranty.

For those with a leaning towards the red team, the STRIX R9 Fury DC3 OC is a worthy contender for the high-end. On offer is a stylish, cool and quiet graphics card which will outperform the reference GTX 980 on the battlefield.
