Software and Testing

Within the packaging there is no software included, only an instruction within the manual to download the software from the Mionix website. I have no problem with this at all, in
fact cutting down on the included accessories - the particulars that are unnecessary is a good thing. Latest versions are always going to require a web update anyway.

A quick trip to the Mionix website and we have the software downloaded and installation within minutes.

The software that Mionix have developed for us with the Naos 3200 provides some impressive customisation. On the first page there is the ability to assign different controls to each of the 7 buttons. Double click speed, scroll speed and pointer acceleration are all able to be modified.

Over on the next screen the colour settings can be altered according to dpi. When the Naos 3200 is plugged in, the Mionix logo on the palm area lights up as well as the scrolling wheel. Changing the dpi on the fly via the buttons on the top of the mouse causes the colours to change on the mouse. 3 colours are available. Red, green and blue. (see below) On this screen, pointer speed and polling rate can be changed too. Quite a nice set of features, polling rates aren't usually this open to modification. On the next page you have the ability to create macros too.

Testing Performance
Commenting on the testing performance of a mouse can become subjective due to personal preferences. I can comment on the feel and durability of the mouse though. With mouse reviews, the particular product is used over a period of 4 hours of solid gaming and general usage within a graphics package and operating system.

The Naos 3200 has some neat features, the dpi on the fly is particularly useful as I found when playing across different genres. Button placement is superb, but being used to a slimmer mouse I found it quite awkward at first getting to grips with the shape and size of the Naos 3200. I have medium sized hands, so the Naos 3200 is quite big. Ideally it would be better suited to a bigger sized hand. Those with small hands should look elsewhere, this mouse will feel too big. The sensor can be classed as overly sensitive - when flicking the mouse after using the mouse to look the sensor even though the mouse is off the pad detects the movement. This can sometimes be quite annoying. But other than that, the mouse is comfortable, and performs great both in game and within the windows environment. It's a very accurate mouse, you can't tell there is no weight system installed.
