AMD A6-3650 APU + CrossfireX Review

Under the top tier A8-3850 APU comes the A6-3650. How well does this compare when we crank up the resolutions and throw a Radeon HD 6570 into the mix?

Thank you for this review, it's just as informative as I needed it to be, lol. Been considering one of these for awhile now, and what their price point is, really helps in that. Price and performance are the 2 primary ingredients for a recipe.

These chips are great, of course at lower res and settings they will be able to run games much smoother, I just felt that many people were testing at low resolutions and that many people would be interested in seeing high settings so we can see how far they have to go till we can get something like these chips that can play the latest mainstream games at high settings and res. at 1080p most games are GPU limited so we were really getting a feel for the limits of the APUs graphic capabilities.

Does the CFx only work with 6570 or 6670 cards? I think an old 4850 has the same power as a 6570. It's unfair that AMD only supports latest gfx cards. But maybe there are some PCI Express limitations?

hi, the A6 and A8 works with the 6670, 6570 and the 6450 cards.

It isnt about PCI-e limitation or being unfair, its about different GPU architectures that work together. If everything were to keep compatibility there would be no progression. the 5xxx seris and 6xxx series are DX11 compliant where as the 4850 is DX10.1 only.

this chart should help.

So, although your posted chart does not show it, can you use a 5xxx series GPU ?

thanks

If I understood correctly, even if they support DX11, you can't use 5xxx series cards in Dual Graphics mode.

correct. unfortunately it would appear that only the cards in the chart are compatible.
IE
6450
6570
6670

which is a shame as some 5xxx series cards SHOULD be compatible too theoretically.

fwiw there are indications that the future APU Trinity will be compatible with current graphics cards too.. but that isnt a certainty.

Oh bum... bang goes that idea then!

Thanks for the heads up (info) and always useful to have a place to raise the questions before making big mistakes
