Excellent review as always Rich. Few questions though:

1. Regarding the chipset fan, can the speed be controlled? I see the fan has a four pin header which would suggest support for PWM functionality. If not, how is cooling with the fan disconnected?

2. Does the board still support RC TweakIT remotely via phone over Bluetooth?

3. Can you still flash the motherboard by connecting a memory stick to the ROG USB port and pressing the button?

I'm quite interested in buying the board but wouldn't want it to have fewer features then the R3E.

Yes it can. It can be turned off or moderated as with all fans with PWM functionality. It's not excessively loud, but it is certainly noticeable (when left in auto). I left it in auto while testing the board as I didn't want to trigger the PCH temp protection (90c) although it never got that high I din't want to blame poor overclocking due to unforseen PCH protection problems .

Although I didn't try this it does have ROG iDirect which for all intents and purposes is the same thing. The good news here is it also includes (supported) GPU tweaking too if that floats your boat

Yes

It's got more I would say, more useful ones anyway. The OC Key is perhaps the most useful of all, especially if you are OCD about temp monitoring and tweaking lol. Deffo a worthy buy (I take it you won the euromillions!).

Actually, the price has dropped considerably from when I wrote the review and can now be had for around the £320 mark, even lower if you don't need BF3 which is great news!

Cheers mate.

ROG iDirect only seems to support iCrap devices and I can't find anything for Android even though the R3E has support for more phone OSes.

Price-wise, I don't mind too much. The upsetting thing about having an R3E is that anything else would seem a downgrade so it's the only board that has the features I want. Looking around, there are a couple for £310. Would have preferred it for free though!

Great review matey, this looks to be the best 2011 board available, and seems to be the number 1 choice for anyone looking for the best. I've seen countless amounts of builds using this mobo lol, dont blame them looks very very nice has tonnes of features and overclocks and performs very well with the components.

Thanks!

Both this and the Big Bang are great boards, both expensive but but ultra performers!
