Phanteks PH-TC14PE 140mm Review

Phanteks is justly famous for its PH-TC14PE, a large tandem tower heatsink that has become the top-cooling heatsink. How will it compare to a large field of fans?

Excellent review i like how you are giving such technical details about this and other fans. Its good that Phanteks give the option for different colors in this model, im not keen on the orange but black +1

Interesting review there ehume and great article as always. However, one thing that struck me as strange about the fan is that yours was running at 990RPM rather than the rated 1200RPM. Was there any particular reason for that?

Mine used to run at around 1200RPM unless I used the PWM adaptor which reduced the speed to 1100RPM or so.

I have not figured out just what makes some fans slow down on the Megahalems test rig, and others slow down. I think it may have something to do with static pressure, but I am not sure.

If you look at the open air testing, this particular fan is slower than spec. It is slower than spec at all speeds. <shrug> Manufacturing variation. They sent me a slow fan. But rev it up 10% and you might get an 0.5C difference in cooling, a dB in noise. Not much in the scheme of things.

Thanks for the answer ehume. Ultimately, the noise/performance ratio of the fan is average which cannot be argued. My only complaint with them is their price (perhaps a con in your conclusion?). In the UK you can easily get two TY-140s for the same price as one Phanteks fan.
