EVGA Shows Off Next-Gen Dual-CPU Motherboard

Released pics appear to indicate that an SandyBridge-E LGA2011 version of EVGA's monster dual-Xeon Classified SR-2 will be released.

EVGA launched the EVGA Classified SR-2 in March 2010 as the first HPTX form factor motherboard in the consumer space. As a dual-CPU LGA1366 Intel Xeon part, the motherboard is huge and requires a cavernous case to fit inside, but that minor irritation hasn't seemed to dint EVGA's enthusiasm for this type of platform one iota.

Posting this morning on their facebook page, EVGA teased an image of an upcoming LGA2011 dual-CPU motherboard. Likely utilising Xeon (server) versions of SandyBridge-E CPU's, this motherboard will still support 4-Way SLi and likely overclocking options common to consumer-based solutions. Curiously, one socket will have 4-DIMM slots and the second a full 8, proving that there is indeed at least one configuration which would find the HTPX form factor cramped. As yet, no codename for this new board has been released by EVGA.

So, what do you think? Expensive white elephant or earnest attempt to gain the performance crown? Let us know in the forums.
