AMD Radeon HD 7970 Overclocked to 1.7GHz

News Editor: Tony Le Bourne Date: 02-01-2012 [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]  Discuss in Forums

Reports of how well the HD 7970 overclocks are buzzing around, now with a little help from a voltage mod the true potential can be seen.

As more reports of the Sapphire document tell of a coming Atomic HD 7970 clocked to a staggering 1335MHz core, we are starting to get overclocking results using a voltage mod, latest report from MyDrivers tell of a HD 7970 hitting a whopping 1.7GHz core and 8GHz (effective) GDDR5 memory. While this was under LN2, this helps discover the limits and gives a guide to what we can expect from factory overclocked editions and that the Sapphire Atomic RX with a 1335MHz core speed is entirely believable.

The test setup.

Details of the voltage mod are seen at the source however I must stress that it will void your warranty and you risk damaging, destroying your graphics card.
