AMD Update HD7000-Series Pricing

As anticipated, and echoing the circumstances of the previous price revision, AMD have chosen to reduce the price of VGA cards within the Radeon HD7000-series. Unlike the reduction in in late August, changes are evident throughout the performance cards rather than from the 7950 down.

Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition: $499 -> $430
Radeon HD 7970 standard: $429 -> $410

Radeon HD 7950 Boost: $319 -> $300
Radeon HD 7950 standard: $319 -> starts at $290

Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition: $249 - starts at $240
Radeon HD 7850 2 GB: $209 - starts at $200

The largest change is obviously at the top end, where AMD are seeing stern competition from NVIDIA's GeForce GTX670; the HD7970, standard or GHz Edition is now much more appealing.

Latest benchmarks place the HD7950 holding its own against the GTX660Ti, trimming 10% off the asking price of the standard edition makes it extremely tempting from an overclockers perspective. By comparison AMD are obviously confident with how their HD78x0 range shapes up against the newly released GTX660 - the slight change squeezes margins but probably accounts simply for new competition rather than the idea that the competition is worryingly better.

No changes to the HD77x0 range as yet. AMD may be waiting for NVIDIA's analogue to the HD7770 before assessing if they need to be revised and by how much.
