Big Picture: Steam, Now Playing on your TV

News Editor: Craig Farren Date: 11-09-2012 [ Print | 4 comment(s) ]  Discuss in Forums

Why give up your games, your friends, and all that you love about Steam when you play games in the living room? With Big Picture, we've reformatted Steam for use with your TV and game controller, so you can enjoy your Steam games from the comfort of your couch.

I announced a few months ago that Steam's Big Picture mode would be available for BETA soon. Well, that soon is now! You can opt in to the Big Picture mode BETA through your steam client!

(Picture shamelessly screen grabbed from youtube video below)

I'm not going to ramble on here about it because there is a fantastic youtube video below that shows it in action. Also, the official page gives heaps of information on it too. What do you see as the pros and cons, will you be using it? Check it out for yourself and discuss what you think in our forums.

I'm not really much of a PC gamer. I have Steam and a selection of games on it but I haven't used Steam in many months. If this turns out as well as it could i'll be back using it much more in the future and I guess this is the kind of comment Valve want to read. Real potential.

I agree. This is a pretty awesome feature. Lots of people have a media centre PC or HTPC attached to their TV (myself included) and this would add a new dimension to that. For me the real benefit to this would be the ability to play indie or co-op games on the couch with a few mates. I know that is essentially what a console is for but I don't like consoles and have a good selection of PC games.

Also, for those who are interested to get steam to start in Big Picture mode just create a shortcut with this code

Code:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -tenfoot
