DeepCool Get Colourful With The Steam Castle

Chinese cooling specialists DEEPCOOL have gradually been broadening their range in the past twelve months and this week are finally revealing the launch date and specifications of their STEAM CASTLE PC chassis. Most notably for Deepcool the chassis will be their first foray into the mATX form factor; both Pangu and Tesseract ranges (Deepcool's previous) have been mid-tower ATX designs based on a standard internal layout.

The Steam Castle orients mATX motherboards horizontally, giving the chassis a somewhat squat look despite accommodating 200mm-tall CPU heatsinks. Four illuminated turbine-esq decorate the roof, giving the Steam Castle what can only be called a unique look. The majority of the exterior is finished with a soft-touch coating that in the past we've found to be a pretty inexpensive means of providing what feels like a quality finish to a PC chassis.

Internally the chassis appears to be quite spacious, which is quite uncommon for a MATX design; as noted it can not only swallow large CPU heatsinks, but also fit even 340mm long GFX cards. In fact the only partial point of concern would be the location and intrusion into the chassis of a 5.25" optical drive - that's certainly something to look at in reviews. Deepcool also claim support for 240mm radiators mounted in the roof, which given the cases internal dimensions could probably be full-thickness.

Aesthetically the Steam Castle won't be everyone's cup of tea, but like Marmite there will be plenty of people out there who will love it in any one of its four colour variations. They will have to wait a little while longer to get their hands on it however - the Steam Castle is due for release in July and is set for a fairly healthy MSRP of $119.99 (in US) and €88.99 (in Europe).
