The ENERMAX ETS T50 is one cooler expected to qualify for an AM4 upgrade kit

Following on from last week's news that be quiet! were offering free AM4 upgrades to selected CPU coolers, both ENERMAX and LEPA have today revealed a similar policy to current customers. The kits, which will ensure 100% compatibility with AM4 motherboards and CPUs, will be available upon the release of the new platform or from March 1st (whichever is sooner).

AMD's AM4 socket is set to be a long-standing design that will unify both CPU and APU desktop ranges long into the future. Definitive information on dimensions and compatibility hasn't been revealed but it's currently understood that AM3 CPU coolers will not be compatible with AM4 sockets without a change to the mounting mechanism, hence the recent 3rd party announcements. If this is the case, existing coolers which feature an integrated mounting mechanism are unlikely to be compatible with AM4; we've reached out to AMD representatives for clarification on this point.

LEPA's NEOllusion cooler will surely qualify for an upgrade kit too.

Applications for ENERMAX's upgrade free AM4 upgrade kits can be made through their support site at http://www.enermax.co.uk/support, whilst LEPA offer theirs through the support contact email [email protected]. Both ENERMAX and LEPA require a copy of the invoice from the original retailer. Not also that the ENERMAX Liqtech120X is excluded from this offer.

Alongside upgrade kits for their coolers, new versions of existing designs are expected that will natively support AM4. AMD's AM4 platform, RyZen CPUs and updated motherboards are expected later this year, likely this quarter.
