The world's biggest micro-chip maker Intel has come to a resolution in a long standing argument with chipset rival Nvidia in a handy $1.5bn (965.2m) settlement. The argument dated back to 2009 over the chipset licensing agreement amongst other things.

Intel’s legal dept must be breathing a sigh of relief as this now puts to bed one of the remaining high profile legal disputes that Intel has been fighting over this decade. This has come at a cost and it is estimated that Intel have shelled out over $4bn in settlement fees over just 3 big profile cases.

This settlement doesn’t mean that Nvidia will be producing any new chipsets for the current series of Intel sockets but they can continue to produce Core 2 chipsets. However it seems that Nvidia haven’t been interested in making any more new chipsets for a while now and are moving to pastures new in the mobile market. One thing made clear is that they won’t get an x86 license in the agreement so we won’t be seeing any Nvidia cpu’s anytime soon
