As end-users may know, the Southern Islands series of graphics processing units will power the upcoming new line of AMD Radeon HD 6000 cards.

These video boards promise to be more powerful that the HD 5000 series that their maker currently sells, though not by very much due to them being built on the same 40nm manufacturing process as them.

Being the infinite fountain of knowledge that it is, the web has, so far, provided photos of not only an alleged Cayman XT-based video board, but also of a Caicos-based AMD Radeon HD 6300.

Now, the same source has provided yet another photo, only this time revealing the existence of what will supposedly be known as either Radeon HD 6700 or HD 6800.

The Barts CPU is going to have a performance rating in between those of the aforementioned Caicos and Cayman XT.

The card shown in the photo has not exactly been detailed, but one can definitely notice the dual-slot cooler, a CrossFireX connector, 1GB of GDDR5 memory and, apparently, an interface of 256 bits.

The video card also seems to feature two 6-pin PCI Express power connectors and a CrossFireX connector.

As for video outputs, the model is designed with a HDMI port, as well as a pair of DisplayPort connectors.

Unfortunately, no clocks are mentioned, nor is there a clear launch date for the board or any of its peers. What remains to be seen is how much better than the current line the newcomers are and if NVIDIA's own products can overcome the competition once the race sparks.
