NVIDIA Set For Major Announcement On Tuesday

NVIDIA are proclaiming all over social media today that The Ultimate Is Coming, and the internet wouldn't be operating at peak efficiency without huge amounts of speculation as to the announcement. New mobile hardware is currently heading the running in the form of a SHIELD tablet based on Tegra K1, a platform which was revealed for the first time at CES 2014 and is notable for bridging the architectural gap between NVIDIA's mobile and desktop graphics hardware.

If the new hardware is a SHIELD tablet device then it's likely to support GAMESTREAM - a technology allowing game content streaming from a PC powered by NVIDIA graphics or over the 'net - hence pretty much demanding low-latency 5GHz wireless networking. Other specifications remain very much in the air but should include a 32-bit Quad-A15 Core ARM Cortex processor and 192 CUDA Cores, screen resolution and port detail are less certain.

Is this NVIDIA upcoming SHIELD tablet?

Presupposing that the reveal is of a SHIELD tablet - and the generally reliable @evleaks certainly seems to think so - this could also be the first SHIELD to make it to these shores in large numbers. Unfortunately the current production model never made it out of the US in significant quantities, making it a toy of influences more than mainstream UK gamers.

With all that in mind it wouldn't be the first time that NVIDIA has sent speculators a merry chase. We'll all find out more on Tuesday 22nd at 2pm BST.
