SilverStone's RAVEN series of PC cases are one of the most well-regarded in the world, not least due to the DNA they inherit from the premium Fortress line. As a result it's always nice to hear of a new RAVEN chassis in the works, and today TechPowerUp has the skinny on the newest member of the family ahead of its global launch in November.

The SilverStone Raven RVX01 is the first in what they've dubbed the 'RAVEN X' line, a series of designs that retain the aggressive styling of the RAVEN series whilst innovating to cater to the evolving needs of enthusiasts. Hints of this ethos can be seen by the red-trim styling, but you get the feeling that you'll need to dig a little deeper to get to the heart of the matter. Furthermore Silverstone are also claiming an 'entry-level price point', although it's not clear as yet just what that point will be.

Somewhat surprisingly SilverStone have opted for a full-tower ATX design rather than more petite mATX or mini-ITX model which seems to be all the rage these days. The manufacturers have once again made use of the signature rotated motherboard internal layout which orients motherboard I/O out the roof of the chassis, which they maintain is far better for air flow and heat dissipation reasons. As a result fans (in this case three 120mm Air Penetrator models) suck air in through the elevated floor, to be exhausted out the top as well as provide assured cool air for the GPU and CPU.

Another interesting step taken is the removal of the optical drive bay from the design, opting for only 3.5"/2.5" internal bays and discreet front I/O ports. This frees up space internally for additional features, and could may the design an interesting target for modders. One 120mm fan position in the front is perhaps more of an afterthought - there because they can put one there rather than it being needed.

Perhaps one of the more critical factors in the cases success will be compatibility with water cooling, both bespoke and closed-loop. In the past support has been mixed, but with closed loop design all the more common for CPU and now GPU cooling it will be very interesting to see how SilverStone have reconciled this progression in the market.
