Eidos Montreal have released the minimum hardware requirements for their upcoming stealth/action title Thief, and for once they're hardly likely to make your pocketbook cry out in pain.

Minimum Specs:

OS: Windows Vista with platform update
CPU: High-performance dual core CPU or quad core CPU
RAM: 4 GB
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon 4800 series / Nvidia GTS 250
DirectX: DirectX 10
HDD/SSD: 20 GB

Recommended Specs:

OS: Windows 7 or 8
CPU: AMD FX 8000 series or better / Intel i7 Quad Core CPU
RAM: 4+ GB
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD / R9 series or better / Nvidia GTX 660 series or better
DirectX: DirectX 11
HDD/SSD: 20 GB

To put that into some sort of perspective the HD Radeon 4800-series was state of the art in 2008, whilst the GTX660 is only a mid-range part today. Any 'gaming PC' bought within the last few years should be easily up to the task, and it's possible that a good experience can be had even with the graphics of high-end APUs.

A more onerous requirements is that for Windows Vista or better, leaving Windows XP users out in the cold. The venerable OS has by now had its day with Microsoft effectively withdrawing support, yet Windows 7 is certainly a serviceable OS and most new PCs will come with Windows 8/8.1.

Thief will also be the first title to support AMD TrueAudio Technology. A feature compatible with only select AMD hardware - namely the R7 260 and R9 290 GFX card series - it provides a more immersive audio experience by providing the audio engine with better positional information and offloading much of the work to an on-board DSP. Although we wouldn't suggest investing in such a card specifically for this game it's certainly a nice bonus for those who have already gone down this route.

Thief is due for release on the 25th February in North America, with the UK & EU following on the 28th.
