AMD's RSCE 16.5.1 Drivers Add Forza Motosport 6: Apex Optimisations

AMD have just released their latest driver package for Radeon graphics cards, adding optimisations targeting the upcoming beta for Forza Motorsport 6 Apex. Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.5.1 boasts performance improvements up to 27%* on configurations equipped with the flagship Radeon Fury X GPU and a high end desktop CPU, with commensurate improvements likely on cards that share a similar architecture.

Apex is a DirectX 12 title crafted for Windows 10, and as such is on the bleeding edge when it comes to game support. Due to the scheduling of a protracted closed beta, new PC-specific features such as V-Sync disable, in-app frame counters and more will be slowly integrated into the game client as development progresses. As such RSCE 16.5.1 is a 'first pass' driver, and won't necessarily be the recommended one for Apex's launch later in the year.

The new driver is available here for Windows 7, 8/8.1 and 10 (32 & 64-bit). It is only suitable for GPUs and APUs with GCN-class products, and specifically doesn't support the following "Carrizo" APUs: FX-8800P, PRO A12-8800B, PRO A10-8700B, PRO A8-8600B, PRO A6-8500B, A10-8700P, A8-8600P and A6-8500P.

Release Notes:

Radeon Software Crimson Edition is AMD's revolutionary new graphics software that delivers redesigned functionality, supercharged graphics performance, remarkable new features, and innovation that redefines the overall user experience. Every Radeon Software release strives to deliver new features, better performance and stability improvements.

(1) Testing conducted by AMD Performance Labs as of April 3, 2016 on the AMD Radeon™ Fury X, on a test system comprising Intel i7 5960X CPU, 16GB DDR4-2666 Mhz system memory, Radeon Software Crimson Edition driver 16.4.2 and Radeon Software Crimson Edition driver 16.5.1 and Windows 10 x64 using the game Forza Motorsport 6: Apex™. PC manufacturers may vary configurations, yielding different results. At 3840x2160, Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.4.2 scored 47.58 and Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.5.1 scored 60.69 on AMD Radeon™ R9 Fury X, which is 27.5% faster performance. Test results are not average and may vary. RS-30
