Aqua Computer Launches AMPINEL12V-2x6 Graphics Card Power Management Passthrough Adapter

Aqua Computer has introduced AMPINEL, a dedicated 12V-2x6 graphics card power management device developed in response to the ongoing reliability concerns surrounding high-power GPU connectors. Despite revisions to the 12VHPWR and 12V-2x6 standards, reports of overheating and melted connectors continue to emerge, particularly on high-end graphics cards operating under sustained or highly dynamic loads.

Rather than acting as a simple adapter or monitor, AMPINEL is designed as an active safeguard for modern flagship GPUs. By regulating current at the connector level and closely monitoring thermal and electrical behaviour, Aqua Computer aims to reduce stress on the 12V-2x6 interface while providing early detection of potentially unsafe conditions.

Aqua Computer AMPINEL Overview

AMPINEL is explicitly developed for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4000 and upcoming RTX 5000 series graphics cards. Support for AMD graphics cards is currently under validation and will be announced at a later date.

Unlike passive solutions, AMPINEL actively balances current across individual 12V rails. It evaluates contact resistance and heat generation in real time using high-speed measurement algorithms, allowing it to minimise power loss at the connector and reduce the risk of overheating.

• Active current balancing across individual 12V-2x6 contacts
• Limits current to 9.2 A per contact with defined safety tolerances
• Monitors connector and balancer temperatures continuously
• Detects and visualises contact resistance via aquasuite software

The collected data is displayed within Aqua Computer’s aquasuite software using colour-coded schematics, allowing users to quickly identify poor connections between the power supply, AMPINEL, and the graphics card.

Protection, Monitoring, and Control

AMPINEL includes an eight-stage alarm system with configurable escalation, ranging from on-screen warnings to automatic system shutdown and hard power cut-off to the graphics card. Optional Sense-line control allows GPU power reporting to be limited to either 600 W or 450 W, reducing overall load where required.

• Multi-stage alarm management with automated responses
• Optional GPU power limiting via Sense contacts
• OLED display with configurable pages for live monitoring
• Integrated RGB lighting for visualising power and system status

The device is available in two fixed connector orientations, Type A and Type B, to match different graphics card layouts. AMPINEL supports up to 650 W and must be installed directly onto the graphics card, without extension cables or adapters, to function correctly.

Pricing and Availability
Aqua Computer AMPINEL Type A and Type B variants are priced at €99.90 (including 19% VAT, excluding shipping costs). Availability is effective immediately via Aqua Computer’s online store.
