ASUS Republic of Gamers has unveiled the ROG Crosshair 2006, a special-edition X870E AM5 motherboard created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ROG brand. Inspired by the original ROG Crosshair motherboard launched in 2006, the new model combines nostalgic styling cues with ASUS’ latest enthusiast-grade gaming technologies, delivering a flagship platform designed for modern AMD Ryzen systems.

Positioned as a reskinned version of the ROG Crosshair X870E Dark Hero motherboard, the ROG Crosshair 2006 adopts a distinctive retro-inspired design highlighted by copper-toned heatsinks, blue-and-white memory slots, and classic visual accents that pay tribute to the earliest days of the Republic of Gamers lineup. ASUS describes the motherboard as a blend of “past and present,” pairing vintage aesthetics with modern connectivity, advanced cooling, and refined DIY features.

Classic ROG Design Reimagined for 2026
The ROG Crosshair 2006 heavily references the visual identity of the original Crosshair motherboard, featuring a dominant copper colour scheme accented by blue and white motherboard components. ASUS also revives the classic cubic “Project G” logo used during the early development phase of the ROG brand.

A major highlight of the motherboard is its integrated 2-inch OLED display located on the primary M.2 heatsink. The screen includes two exclusive animations, one honouring the original ROG Crosshair design and another commemorating the 20th anniversary of ROG. Users can also configure the display to show system telemetry such as CPU clock speeds, temperatures, and fan speeds, or upload custom graphics and animations.

The board’s cooling design also embraces the retro aesthetic, using copper-themed heatsinks and a connected heatpipe layout inspired by enthusiast motherboards from the mid-2000s while utilising modern aluminium construction for improved weight and thermal efficiency.
