Press Release

Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios have officially launched Battlefield 6™, ushering in a new generation of large-scale combat. Available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Battlefield 6 expands the franchise’s signature sandbox gameplay with brand-new multiplayer modes, a cinematic single-player campaign, and the return of Portal—allowing players to create, share, and play custom Battlefield experiences.

A World on the Brink
Set in 2027, the game’s narrative unfolds in a fractured world where the NATO alliance is collapsing under economic and political strain. In the chaos, a private military giant known as Pax Armata rises to power, setting the stage for global conflict. Players step into this world through nine explosive single-player missions as Dagger 13, an elite US Marine squad battling to restore order.

Multiplayer Redefined
The game features nine global maps including Tajikistan’s Liberation Peak, Manhattan Bridge, and New Sobek City near Cairo—each built for large-scale, destructible warfare. Fan-favourite modes like Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush return, joined by new additions such as Escalation. Classic shooter staples—Team Deathmatch, Domination, and King of the Hill—have also been reimagined with Battlefield’s trademark destruction and tactical depth.

Portal Returns, Seasons Begin
Battlefield 6 also debuts an improved Portal, empowering players with advanced creation tools to redesign and remix Battlefield gameplay. Post-launch support begins on October 28 with Season 1: Rogue Ops, introducing new maps, a 4v4 mode, and ongoing updates through December. EA confirms all gameplay-affecting content will remain free or earnable in-game, ensuring fair play for all.

Surges Past 500,000 Concurrent Players on Steam, Long Server Queues
Just 25 minutes into launch, Battlefield 6 surged past half a million concurrent players on Steam, triggering large server queues and wait times of up to 15 minutes during peak hours. Early community feedback on Steam is mixed — many players praise the thrill and scale of combat, while others note issues with map balance, pacing, and performance. To manage the influx of players, developers have implemented a queuing system to stabilise servers and ensure smoother matchmaking during busy periods.
