Big Block For A Big Chip - Phanteks Releases The Glacier C399a For AMD Threadripper

If you've built a High End Desktop system in the past few weeks, or indeed are planning one in the near future, there's a very good chance that you're dabbling in a spot of Threadripping. AMD's Ryzen Threadripper platform has taken the prosumer market by storm thanks to its frankly ludicrous 16 cores and 32-threads. One sticking point however might have been cooling - chiefly due to the size of the beastly chip - and that has manufacturers rushing to provide consumers with high-end cooling kits that natively support the new oversized CPU socket.

This week Dutch cooling specialists Phanteks are announcing two new developments that will be sure to help consumers with their Threadripping needs.

First up is the GLACIER C399a waterblock for Threadripper CPUs. Named for the X399 motherboard platform rather than the TR4 socket on which the CPU resides, the Glacier C399a is a full waterblock with fins located over the actual CPU dies. The design ensures that all active components in the CPU are covered fully rather than partially, which could be a potential issue with standard air and water-cooling parts retrofitted for the TR4 socket. This in tern should help Threadripper chips stay cool long-term with high overclocking potential.

The C399a is custom designed for AMD’s high end CPU’s (RYZEN Threadripper) and features a massive copper base and fin surface area. VITON sealing from the Automotive and Aerospace Industries ensure the best reliability and longevity.

Additionally, the C399a mirrors the rest of the Glacier series by incorporating RGB lighting that can be synchronised across all Phanteks products through an suitable equipped motherboard. The waterblock will be available this month with two colour variants - Mirrored Chrome and Satin Black.

Phanteks' second announcement is the availability of a new TR4 upgrade kit for their best-performing CPU air cooler, the PH-TC14PE. Owners of the PH-TC14PE can apply to Phanteks for a free kit, and all future PH-TC14PE sold will have the new mounting bracket included as standard alongside counterparts for Intel LGA and AMD AM4 sockets.

To apply for the kit customers should email their relevant regional support contact, supplying them with proof of purchase of both the PH-TC14PE and an AMD TR4 processor or X399 motherboard.
