Bulldozer will be 50% faster than Core i7 and Phenom II

Turkish tech site DonaimHaber is reporting that AMD have given a presentation that has revealed some more information about their much-anticipated Bulldozer architecture. The upcoming 8-core Zambezi CPU will apparently deliver 50% more performance than an Intel Core i7 950 or a Phenom II X6 1100T. No other information is given on the Zambezi processor, though if this information is to be taken at face value, it may put the performance of this chip above the most powerful consumer CPUs, such as the Intel 980x.

In development for 5 years, Bulldozer is AMD's latest microprocessor architecture, which should be revealed some time in Q2 this year. The first wave of performance CPUs (code name Zambezi) use the AM3+ platform and 9 series chipset. It is said to be one of the biggest architecture changes that AMD have ever made to their line up, though little information is known at this point in time. Vortez reported on a leak from AMD about which processors we could expect, see below.

We commented on the leaked slide:

Four Zambezi AM3+ CPUs are shown, two 8-core (one 125W TDP, one 95W TDP) with the lower power version most likely to be a slightly slower chip, despite the similar levels of cache. All the CPUs also support Turbo Boost, a feature from AMD that disables inactive cores and boost the speed of the active ones, as seen in the current 6-core lineup.

The slide also shows that the Zambezi CPUs Integrated Memory Controllers (IMCs) will support up to DDR3-1866, which is a good step up from the DDR3-1333 that Thuban, Deneb and similar currently only officially support.

The new 6-core and 4-core CPUs have a 95W TDP, the 6-core having the same level 3 cache as the 8-cores, the 4-core with half that.

We should expect that the chip in question is the 8-core, 125W TDP Zambezi processor as it is the most powerful that we know about on the upcoming platform. The claims can't be taken completely seriously of course, there's no confirmation from AMD whatsoever, nor are there a multitude of sources reporting this information.
