Core i5 750 and i7 975 Retire in Q1 2011

Intel has sent out its product support notice to signal the discontinuation of the i5 750 and i7 975. The 750 was a very strong performer when it was first released in towards the end of 2009 and become very popular as the chip of choice due to its price and overclockability. But now it is making way for the Core i5 2xxx parts and LGA1155.

We can also say farewell to the extreme edition Core i7 975, this has served well for a good year and half but was always for those with deep pockets.

Intel also plans to get rid of the i7 980 and 970 to pave the way for a new batch of hopefully overclockable kids and some other 21 CPUs are set to reach their lifetime.

It’s been fun but as always in the microprocessor world, out with the old and in with the new.
