Coming hot on the heels of Computex2016 are Cougar Gaming's latest peripherals designs: the Cougar DeathFire. Conceived as a single peripheral package for gamers looking for the essentials for their gaming system, the DeathFire is comprised of a keyboard with hybrid mechanical switches and a 2000dpi 1000Hz optical gaming mouse. The combination of both keyboard and mouse is now available from UK etailer Overclockers UK priced at just £39.95 inc. V.A.T.

The Deathfire Keyboard is a return to a membrane switch type for Cougar Gaming, a step back from the recent 700K and 500K that boasted mechanical switches throughout. However unlike membrane switches of old the Deathfire utilises a hybrid design that equalises the pressure across the switch, resulting in a more consistent experience that will last over 20 million clicks.

As one should expect for a gaming keyboard the Deathfire features extensive anti-ghosting across the so-called 'gaming keys', i.e those around the critical WASD zone. Furthermore the WASD keys specifically can be switched to mimic arrow-key inputs for the (blessedly few) games without adequate rebinding options. A Windows Key lock will also ensure that you don't accidentally get dumped to the desktop through an erroneous keypress.

Cougar Gaming's Deathfire mouse mixes standard mousing features into one solid package. The shape is ambidextrous with no side or thumb buttons, and hence suits FPS titles specifically. By incorporating a 2000dpi ADNS-5050 optical sensor they aim to make it accurate without ballooning to excessive DPI levels for a mouse in this price bracket, and naturally the precise level can be adjusted within fairly strict 500dpi increments. OMRON gaming switches should offer a healthy measure of durability, and up to 1000Hz USB polling will keep overall response times low.

Both Deathfire Keyboard and Mouse also feature 7-colour backlights, and function without the need for additional driver or software packages.
