GIGABYTE and ASRock have announced BIOS updates to support the newly introduced AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition processor, bringing compatibility and performance enhancements to their respective AM5 motherboard line-ups. The new processor features a significantly expanded L3 cache design, targeting improved performance in gaming, content creation, and other latency-sensitive workloads.
Both manufacturers are enabling users to take full advantage of the processor through updated firmware, with GIGABYTE focusing on optimisation and feature enhancements, while ASRock highlights broad compatibility across its AM5 platform.
GIGABYTE: AGESA 1.3.0.0a and X3D Turbo Mode 2
GIGABYTE’s latest BIOS update is based on the AMD AGESA 1.3.0.0a firmware, delivering full support for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 across its AM5 800 Series and 600 Series motherboards.
• Enables full performance optimisation for the expanded L3 cache architecture
• Early support via AGESA 1.2.8.0 allowed pre-launch CPU boot compatibility
• Introduces X3D Turbo Mode 2 for intelligent workload optimisation
• AI-driven tuning improves gaming, multitasking, and compute-heavy tasks
• One-click activation available directly within the BIOS interface
GIGABYTE notes that X3D Turbo Mode 2 dynamically prioritises active workloads, ensuring the processor’s large cache is effectively utilised. Users can update via Q-Flash or Q-Flash Plus for a streamlined installation process.
ASRock: Full AM5 Platform Support via BIOS Update
ASRock has also confirmed full support for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 across its AM5 motherboard range through a simple BIOS update.
• Full compatibility with the new processor across AM5 motherboards
• Designed to leverage increased cache for creator and developer workloads
• BIOS updates available via official support page
• Supports BIOS Flashback and Instant Flash for convenient updates
ASRock recommends users update to the latest BIOS version to ensure optimal compatibility and performance when using the new processor. The latest BIOS updates from both GIGABYTE and ASRock are now available via their respective official websites.
MSI and ASUS
MSI has teased support for the new processor through a social media post highlighting its MEG X870E GODLIKE MAX and MEG X870E UNIFY-X MAX motherboards, claiming to “unleash maximum performance”. However, at the time of writing, MSI has not released an official BIOS update nor provided downloadable firmware for the CPU.
ASUS, on the other hand, has yet to make a formal announcement, but BIOS versions featuring AGESA ComboAM5 PI 1.3.0.0a appear to already be available, suggesting early support for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is in place. Pricing and availability of compatible motherboards may vary depending on region.
