GIGABYTE has unveiled the Z890 AORUS TACHYON DUO X ICE, refining its extreme overclocking motherboard lineup with a number of key design changes over the earlier GIGABYTE Z890 AORUS TACHYON ICE motherboard. While both models retain the same 18+1+2 digital VRM configuration rated at 110A, the DUO X ICE transitions to an 8-layer PCB design, compared to the 10-layer low-loss PCB used on its predecessor. This shift suggests a reworked PCB architecture focused on signal optimisation and efficiency, rather than relying on additional layers for stability.
Despite the reduction in PCB layers, the DUO X ICE continues to use premium chokes and capacitors, maintaining its enthusiast-grade power delivery. Meanwhile, the previous TACHYON ICE utilises 110A Smart Power Stages and a low-loss PCB design aimed at minimising signal degradation. The new GIGABYTE Z890 AORUS TACHYON DUO X ICE motherboard instead leans into newer memory technologies and AI-driven tuning features, positioning it as a more forward-looking platform for next-generation DDR5 performance and overclocking innovation.
