Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the most eagerly awaited releases for 2015, but today Rockstar confirmed that the game will be delayed whilst it undergoes more testing and polish. Rather than the end-of-January gamers have been working towards this past few months we can now expect it to be available from March 24th 2015, a solid two months later and four months after the XBOX ONE and PlayStation 4.

It's not all bad news however. As well as a new release date Rockstar have supplied the minimum and recommended specifications, and they're not too shabby.

Minimum specifications:

OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2* (*NVIDIA video card recommended if running Vista OS)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz
Memory: 4GB
Video Card: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB / AMD HD 4870 1GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)
Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
HDD Space: 65GB
DVD Drive

Recommended specifications:

OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)
Memory: 8GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD7870 2GB
Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
HDD Space: 65GB
DVD Drive

A quick glance at the minimum specifications show them to be exceptionally modest, with a high-quality system from 2008 capable of achieving playable frame rates. Presumably the DVD Drive requirement is for the boxed version only and digital copies won't have that particular hassle. Only the requirement for 65GB of HDD space raises an eyebrow, but one again HDD space in desktops and most laptops isn't exactly at a premium any more.

Recommended specs aren't much more onerous, necessitating only an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 2GB or AMD Radeon HD7870 2GB. Whilst both are excellent cards (the latter being the slightly better on-paper performer) neither could be described as anything but mid-range. Most people who have purchased a solid gaming system in the past two years should have an excellent experience, although SSD users will have to make a lot of room.

As useful as these specs are however, the proof of the pudding will still be in the eating. GTA has been notorious for poorly optimised PC ports and, with recent high-profile triple-A launch hiccups, patience is wearing thin. Rockstar should take all the time it needs to be a genre-defining experience on the platform, but if GTAV turns out to be yet another bum release there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

In the coming weeks more there will be more information released on GTA V's for PC. In the mean time you can enjoy some 4K screenshots at the news link
