Expreview have reported that Nvidia are planning to release their new dual-GPU GTX 590 on March 22nd, just two weeks after the release of AMD's new flagship, the Radeon HD 6990.
The non-reference EVGA dual-GPU Nvidia card seen at CES 2011. Is this the GTX 590? Most likely yes.
What to expect from the GTX 590 then? The first thing to anticipate will be the cost. We reported back in early February that the GTX 590 will be using hand-picked GF110 GPUs. This process is likely to add a lot to the cost of production, and also indicates that Nvidia will be trying to squeeze as much out of the card as possible. We've seen a pretty impressive showing from AMD's new HD 6990, which will no doubt improve with 3rd party versions (as opposed to reference), so the GTX 590 will have to offer something pretty special. It's likely that the GTX 590 will be a fair bit more expensive than the modestly priced £550 HD 6990, but it is also expected that it will outperform it's rival, especially since GTX 580 SLI currently offers the highest level of dual GPU performance currently available.
The specifications reported so far suggest, two GF110 GPUs, 3GB of GDDR5 VRAM, 1024 CUDA cores and a conservative estimate of TDP at 375W, via 2x8-pin PCIe connectors.
