Intel to Bring 5G Connectivity to Mobile PCs

Intel continues to develop and build new products and partnerships for 5G across the network, client and cloud. Intel announces its partnerships with major mobile PC manufacturers including Dell, HP, Lenovo and Microsoft to bring 5G connectivity to Windows-powered PCs with the Intel XMM 8000 Series commercial 5G modems. Intel expects these new mobile PCs featuring high-performance 5G-connectivity to surface in the market around the second half of 2019.

Preview on 5G-Connected PCs at Mobile World Congress


The first mobile PCs with 5G connectivity using the first generation Intel 5G modem and powered by the 8th generation Intel Core i5 processor are showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). Intel will demonstrate its capabilities by live-streaming video using the 5G network which Intel believes is one of the stepping stones to move forward with 5G-capable computers.

Intel will demonstrate that 5G is more than just a new generation of wireless connectivity. 5G offers new opportunities for technology innovation across all aspects of technology from networking, cloud, and client. 5G could enable untethered immersive VR from anywhere in the world with blistering speeds that will allow 5G users to download 250 megabytes of content within a few seconds.

Intel is investing in collaborations to bring forth 5G-connected mobile PCs to the market that will offer a wide array of opportunities and benefits such as ultra-high-quality video content on-the-go, improved gaming experience, seamless connectivity across multiple platforms and more.
