Monster Hunter World's System Requirements & Launch Date Revealed

Capcom's kaiju killing simulator Monster Hunter World finally arrives on PC this August, six months and change after its debut on Playstation 4. This release will be the franchise's first venture onto the premier gaming platform, having spent most of its now teenage life as a console exclusive, and unsurprisingly should be one of the biggest new titles on PC this year.

The eagerness of potential players is palpable, but one thus-far hidden piece of information eluded them: what system specs would they need to get the most out of their monster hunting experience. Well thankfully Capcom have now dispelled the illusion and... well, it's all rather reasonable really.

The minimum specifications are, as luck would have it, very modest. In terms of GPU - always the first filter point - MHW will only need a GeForce GTX 760 or Radeon R7 260x (though either should have at least 2GB VRAM). Midrange cards from 2013, it also indicates that the higher end of AMD's HD7000-series will be sufficient for your first outing. Be aware though that these will only be good enough for 30fps at Low quality settings.

Meanwhile, CPU requirements are also a selection of mid-range chips from a few years ago. Capsom list an Intel Core i5-4460 (at 3.20GHz) or AMD FX-6300 above, so it appears that most modern quad-core CPUs and many dual-core/quad-thread CPUs will do. Paired with these should be 8GB of RAM, which was standard for gaming systems even in 2013.

Moving up to the recommended specifications and Capcom have hardly pushed the boat out to suggest an NVIDIA or AMD flagship GPU. No, both CPU and GPU recommendations are firmly in the mid-range camp for each manufacturer, including the immensely popular GTX 1060 (3GB) and Ryzen 5 1500X. The system RAM requirement doesn't budge, also sitting at 8GB. Systems with these specs should be good enough for 1080p30 gameplay.

Full specs are listed below:

At launch Capcom have stated that the game will have graphical parity with the Playstation 4 version, presumably referring to texture quality. It also has been confirmed to not be locked at 30fps, and will scale to 4K resolutions given sufficiently beefy hardware.

Monster Hunter World on PC is scheduled for release on August 9th, and can be purchased through Steam priced at £49.99.
