Intel unveils Intel Management (ME) and Intel Trust Execution Engine (TXE) security flaws affecting most of the latest generations of processors from mainstream desktop platforms, server platforms, notebook processors and others. Based on the items identified through the comprehensive security review, an attacker could gain unauthorized access to the platform, Intel ME feature, and 3rd party secrets protected by the Intel Management Engine (ME), Intel Server Platform Service (SPS), or Intel Trusted Execution Engine (TXE).
The security flaws could cause a few vulnerabilities that would enable attackers to cause a system crash or instability. Attackers can also load and execute arbitrary code outside the operating system or the visibility of the user which could lead to more vulnerabilities. Attackers can also impersonate ME/SPS/TXE which can lead to further attacks on the system.
GIGABYTE already begun releasing BIOS updates on the affected motherboard models starting with the latest generations and MSI will now follow suit. MSI affirms users that all MSI Intel 100, 200 and 300 Series motherboards supports the newest Intel TXE 3.0 by updating to the latest available BIOS and installing the latest software updates.
