For an exceptionally long period of its time as a flagship VR device the HTC VIVE was the HMD to get if you were serious about the emerging consumer tech. Now that 2018 has rolled around the next generation of HTC VIVE headsets is just around the corner, and you can reserve yours right now at Overclockers.co.uk. But be quick, the first round of stock is extremely limited.

Headlining the feature list of the new HTC VIVE Pro are the the new optical characteristics. The HMD now integrates dual-AMOLED screens with a resolution of 1440x1600 per eye, increasing pixel density by 37% and raw pixel numbers by more than 75%. Despite the increase in resolution, the refresh rate remains at 90Hz, retaining the smooth and low-latency experience that's the hallmark of VR.

If you're worried about VRRI's (VR related injuries), then Chaperone should provide come peace-of-mind. This technology gives you a virtual 3D outline of your environment, keeping you aware without needing to remove the HMD to reorient yourself. The VIVE Pro can also optionally be fitted with the VIVE Wireless Adapter for a true wire-free experience. The adapter, powered by Intel technology, is fitted with a lithion-ion battery and WiGig 60GHz wireless connectivity, letting your play for hours without needing to hook in to you PC directly.

In other aspects, the VIVE Pro has been crafted to widely improve all aspects of the VIVE experience. The HMD is now more compact, bringing the centre of gravity closer to the face for a more comfortable fit. Audio has been upgraded and qualifies for the new Hi-Res Audio certificate. Dual microphones enable active noise cancellation, whilst also allowing 'Alert' and 'Conversation' modes for when you need to be a little more aware of your surroundings.

Be aware that as hardware specs improve, so will system requirements potentially increase. However at this time no increased requirements over the original VIVE have been outlined by HTC.

HTC's VIVE Pro is available to pre-order now for £799.99 at Overclockers.co.uk, and we've been advised that this first round of stock is extremely limited.

Meanwhile, if you've wanted to get into VR but the VIVE Pro is a touch too hardcore, you can take advantage of a new price for the non-Pro HTC VIVE. This class-leading HMD is now available for £499.99 from £599.99, with the first 50 orders from OCUK netting both free delivery and an exclusive VIVE merchandise bag.
