NVIDIA GeForce are matching AMD Radeon driver for driver this week as the green team release the GeForce Game Ready 391.35 WHQL driver for Far Cry 5. Not quite the feature-rich release of 391.24 last week - which also rolled out NVIDIA Ansel, FreeStyle and Highlights to a wide range of titles, this more meat-and-potatoes package is just good a wholesome stability-and-performance focussed update.

Optimisations for Far Cry 5 are joined by SLI Profiles for driving titles GRIP and WRC 7, a few bug-fixes, and half a dozen software security updates addressing vulnerabilities in the driver kernel. If anything, these sorts of updates - potentially out-of-cycle given the relative dearth of new features - are all the more critical than those which get the majority of attention.

The GeForce Game Ready 391.35 WHQL drivers support NVIDIA hardware back as far as the 400-series on 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 and 10. They can be downloaded at geforce.com/drivers, or via the GeForce Experience app.

• HD Audio Driver - 1.3.36.6
• NVIDIA PhysX System Software - 9.17.0524
• GeForce Experience - 3.13.1.30
• CUDA - 9.1

Fixed Issues

• GeForce 3D Profile Manager tool can't import profiles. [2076480]
• [GeForce Experience]: Memory leak occurs leading to poor game performance when using NVIDIA Freestyle. [2068039]
• [NVIDIA Control Panel][SLI][Diablo III]: With V-Sync on and SLI enabled, the game freezes after switching windows (ALT+TAB) a few times. [1951584]
• [Notebook]: The driver may fail to initialize the GPU. [200354056]

Windows 10 Issues

• [Far Cry 5]: Green flickering occurs in the game when using HDR with non-native resolution.

To work around, either quit and then restart the game while in the desired resolution, or press [Alt+tab] away from and then back to the game, or press [Alt+Enter] to switch to windowed mode and then back to full-screen mode.

• [NVIDIA TITAN V][G-Sync]: G-Sync displays may go blank when switching between different overclocked memory clocks multiple times. [200361272]
• [SLI][GeForce GTX 780 Ti]: There is no display output when connecting the DisplayPort and two DVI monitors. [1835763]
• [GeForce TITAN (Kepler-based)]: The OS fails after installing the graphics card on a Threadripper-enabled motherboard. [1973303]
• [Pascal GPUs][Gears of War 4]: Blue-screen crash may occur while playing the game. [2008731]
• [GeForce GTX 1080 Ti][Doom]: The game crashes due to the driver reverting to OpenGL 1.1 when HDR is enabled. [2049623]

NVIDIA Software Security Updates (CVE ID And NVIDIA Issue Number)

CVE-2018-6247 - 2003798 - Vulnerability in the kernel mode layer (nvlddmkm.sys) handler for DxgkDdiEscape where a NULL pointer dereference may lead to Denial of Service or Escalation of Privileges.

CVE-2018-6248 - 1970661, 1969787 - Vulnerability in the kernel mode layer handler for DxgkDdiEscape where the software uses a sequential operation to read or write a buffer, but it uses an incorrect length value that causes it to access memory that is outside of the bounds of the buffer which may lead to denial of service or possible escalation of privileges.

CVE-2018-6249 - 1960097, 1952160, 2050960 - Vulnerability in kernel mode layer handler where a NULL pointer dereference may lead to denial of service or potential escalation of privileges.

CVE-2018-6250 - 200337413 - Vulnerability in the kernel mode layer (nvlddmkm.sys) handler for DxgkDdiEscape where a NULL pointer dereference occurs which may lead to denial of service or possible escalation of privileges.

CVE-2018-6251 - 2050736 - Vulnerability in Directx 10 Usermode driver, where specially crafted pixel shader can cause writing to unallocated memory which may lead to denial of service or potential code execution.

CVE-2018-6252 - 1893760 - Vulnerability in the kernel mode layer handler for DxgkDdiEscape where the software allows an actor access to restricted functionality that is unnecessary to production usage, and which may result in denial of service.

CVE-2018-6253 - 2060652 - Vulnerability in DirectX and OpenGL Usermode drivers where specially crafted pixel shader can cause infinite recursion which may lead to denial of service.
