Oculus Rift Pre-Orders Open 4pm GMT Tomorrow (Jan 6th)

Hang on to those F5 keys! Oculus have revealed that pre-orders for the consumer Rift headset will open up from 8am Pacific (4pm GMT) tomorrow (Wednesday 6th January), ending one long tease and beginning another, this one hopefully much shorter.

Pre-orders for the Oculus Rift headset will be place through the Oculus website, and it wouldn't be all that surprising if the site struggles a little with the peak load. However fear not, CEO Palmer Luckey himself has [rul=https://twitter.com/PalmerLuckey/status/684103503308955649]taken to twitter[/url] to reassure fans that there is 'no chance' of Rift pre-orders selling out, even if it means shipping some advanced orders post-launch. Pre-orders will also be available where-ever you are in the world, and will be shipped in Q1 2016 (i.e. before the end of March).

As well as all the kit you'd expect to be bundled, pre-orders of the headset will also include a copy of CCP's EVE: Valkyrie. This space shooter, set in the same universe as blockbuster MMO EVE, has been designed for VR and remains a go-to title for official demonstrations of the hardware's capabilities.

Unfortunately, one component of the Rift's complete package which won't be available on the device's launch is the Oculus Touch VR controller. This free-space controller built in the mould of VR controllers of old isn't quite ready for prime-time (and has just undergone a slight redesign), and so will follow separately at some point after the headsets release. Meanwhile, traditional PC control is pretty much the fall-back position, either keyboard and mouse or an XBox-standard controller.

And before you ask - no, Oculus haven't released pricing information.

Enthusiasts can also join in the Reddit AMA with Palmer Luckey from 6pm (4am GMT) Pacific tomorrow.
