Newcastle-under-Lyme, 4th March 2013 - With the Brocken 2, the cooling specialist Alpenföhn is serving up another incredible piece of engineering for all hardware enthusiasts out there. Taking the experience gained from the first Brocken cooler, the feedback from thousands of customers and the online community, the Brocken 2 raises the envelope in performance cooling for a single tower cooler.

The result is a premium grade cooler, not too extravagant but with incredible cooling powers, edgy design, excellent quality and a long list of useful features paired with the newly designed 140 mm PWM fan. These aspects lift the new Brocken 2 beyond the pinnacle of the original Brocken cooler.

The tower cooler may remind viewers of its predecessor, but is now optimized for a 140 mm fan instead of a 120 mm unit. Due to this, the Alpenföhn Brocken 2 is slightly wider and higher, clocking in at 14.6 x 16.5 cm (W x H). It is, however slimmer than the original Brocken as it only has a dept of 9.8 cm. The most significant change is the double-tower design, while the first edition of the Brocken cooler used one large fin stack instead.

Even though the Alpenföhn Brocken 2 has been split in the middle, it does carry the same genes of the original with the unique stacking of fins in groups of three. This leads to larger spaces between the fins and combines the advance of best semi-passive performance with a silent fan operation as very little pressure is needed to push air across the fins. All this is achieved without sacrificing cooling performance, as the Brocken 2 is still made up of a large number of layers.

Also part of the new generation cooler is the Gapless-H.D.T.-Technology, which incorporates the heatpipes directly into the copper base. further increasing the effectiveness of the cooler. An important new aspect of the Alpenföhn Brocken 2 is its asymmetrical design. The five nickel coated heatpipes are shaped in a way, so that the radiators are not perfectly centered above the base plate, but pushed slightly back.

This means that the Alpenföhn Brocken 2 does not collide with any of the memory slots next to the CPU socket, regardless of the fan setup. This allows for users to fully equip their motherboards with the memory of their choice without worry. The Brocken 2 can be mounted on any modern Intel or AMD platform, these include Intel-Socket 115x, 1366 and 2011 or AMD-Socket AM2(+), AM3(+) and FM1/2. Thanks to the included RockMount-System, the installation process is quick and painless.

The included fan is also a new generation of the award winning Wingboost series. Called Winboost 2, it features a completely redesigned fan blade and excellent hydraulic bearing. These new approaches have not only increased the performance of the fan, but also reduced the overall noise level. Thanks to the PWM connectivity, the fan is able to rotate between 400 and 1.100 RPM depending on CPU load.

Alpenföhn has also managed to increase the static pressure of these fans, thanks to the new design, while also ensuring utmost compatibility with the inclusion of 120 mm mounting holes. The Wingboost 2 fan rotates at a maximum of 1.100 RPM, with 19 dB(A) and an impressive 109 m³/h.

The Alpenföhn Brocken 2 CPU Cooler - 140 mm will be available from the middle of March for a price of £38.99 at Overclockers UK
