SanDisk Adds A 2TB External SSD To The Extreme 900 Range

Flash technology specialists SanDisk are at Computex2015 in Taipei this week, showcasing new storage solutions for PCs, cameras and other digital devices. Amongst these additions to their already comprehensive range comes a brand new external SSD, both capacious and fast.

The 2TB Extreme 900 Portable SSD is one of the first tranche of USB storage solutions which are making use of the newest USB 3.1 specification and USB Type-C connector. SanDisk claim that thanks to this new spec, which combines a higher peak bandwidth than USB 3.0 with a revised compact connector, and a new controller the drive is capable of transfer speeds up to 850 MB/s. Presumably the drive also supports UASP in order to make best use of available speed.

Extreme 900 Portable devices with USB 3.1 will also be available in 480GB and 960GB capacities. 2TB, 960GB and 480GB versions are priced at $999.99, $599.99 and $399.99 respectively, and will be bundled with both USB 3.1 Type-A and Type-C cables to ensure maximum legacy compatibility. A 3 year limited warranty is also standard on this new range.
