SanDisk Introduces Next-Generation Portable SSD Portfolio

SanDisk has introduced the next generation of its portable SSD portfolio, unveiling a three-tier line-up built to support larger file sizes, AI developed content, and increasingly demanding digital workflows. The refreshed range includes the SanDisk Portable SSD, SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, and SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD, addressing everyday, creative, and professional storage requirements.

The new portfolio delivers meaningful performance improvements across the range. SanDisk states that each product is designed to support the growing volume of AI generated content and a variety of workloads, from day-to-day backups to demanding creative and professional production tasks. Delivering nearly twice the speed of its predecessor alongside enhanced durability, the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is available now, with the remainder of the portfolio scheduled to roll out later this year.

SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD
Designed for creative users, photography and video enthusiasts, and professionals working with larger files, this model delivers high performance portable storage for active workflows. It offers read speeds of up to 2000MB per second and can transfer up to 1000 high resolution photos in under 60 seconds. Available capacities include 1TB, 2TB and 4TB, with a 500GB model projected for the second half of 2026.

SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD
Aimed at professional photographers, filmmakers and designers, the Extreme PRO is built for demanding creative and multi stream workflows, including real time editing and high resolution media handling. The drive delivers transfer speeds of up to 4000MB per second, supporting tasks such as moving up to 10 minutes of 12K video in just under a minute. It will be offered in 2TB and 4TB capacities, with an 8TB version projected for later in 2026.

SanDisk Portable SSD
Designed for students, office workers and family archivists, this model provides reliable portable storage for everyday digital content. It delivers read speeds of up to 1000MB per second in a compact design suited to home, school or travel use. Capacities will include 1TB and 2TB, with a 500GB version expected in the second half of the year.

Each of the new drives features a durable design intended for use in a range of environments. The SanDisk Portable SSD is projected to offer drop protection of up to two metres. The SanDisk Extreme and SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSDs provide up to three metre drop protection and carry an IP65 rating for resistance against dust and water splashes. The Extreme and Extreme PRO models also include password protection with 256 bit AES hardware encryption.

Pricing and Availability
The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is available now and shipping globally, with pricing starting at 259.99 USD MSRP for the 1TB model. A 500GB variant is scheduled to arrive in the second half of 2026. The drive is backed by a five year limited warranty.
The SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD will launch in the second half of 2026 in 2TB, 4TB and 8TB capacities and will include a five year limited warranty.
The standard SanDisk Portable SSD is also set for release in the second half of 2026 in 500GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities, backed by a three year limited warranty. Pricing for these upcoming models has yet to be confirmed.
