Valve officially made the Steam Controller and Link set-top streaming hardware available for pre-order in April, with a special pre-order wave shipping on October 16th ahead of a more general release in November. This early bird deal was set to continue while stocks last, and it seems like stocks have now run out.

Anyone who failed to pick up either the Controller or Link hardware may be disheartened, but fear not; a second wave of hardware will begin shipping from November 10th, less than a month after the pre-order batch. The question is whether the end of first wave orders is down to heavy demand and if it will affect post-launch availability. Either way, unless you have a pressing need for either device you lose nothing by holding off until after reviews.

This lack of stock may also be affecting shipments of Steam Machine systems, PC hardware bundled with Steam OS and presumably Controller. According to ArsTechnica Alienware Steam Machine pre-orders now list shipping dates from the 10th November, whilst the equivalent Syber systems will ship on or after October 15th.
