Still Time To Claim Observer & Alan Wake's American Nightmare On The Epic Games Store

The Halloween Sale is ongoing at Epic's Games Store, where you can pick up bargains such as Alan Wake for 3 and Rainbow Six Siege for 7, but that doesn't mean the regular trail of free games every week has paused in the mean time. Until 4pm UK time Thursday you can pick up both Alan Wake's American Nightmare and Observer completely free if you have an EGS account, after which two new games will take centre stage.

Alan Wake's American Nightmare has more of a focus on combat than other members of the franchise, but retains the dark thriller tone that made the original a cult classic. As a standalone experience you don't need to own or have played the previous installments, but doing so may keep you grounded in this oft-times confusing world Remedy have built. A Single Player Story Mode is joined by an Arcade challenge mode, where players are pitted against increasingly difficult waves of enemies in maps and with weapons uncovered by playing through the story.

Those with different tastes may prefer Observer, a psychological horror title from the makers of Layers of Fear. Set in a dystopian 2084 Krakow, the game echoes other cyberpunk titles by emphasising hacking and problem solving over shooting skills to unwind the mystery put before the player. It also stars the late actor Rutger Hauer, who lends a touch of class and genre legitimacy to proceedings as the game's protagonist.

Layers of Fear: Masterpiece Edition and Q.U.B.E.2 are coming up on Thursday evening as the EGS free titles of the week; and the former in particular would be a great accompaniment to this week's titles as part of a Halloween indie gaming extravaganza. Find all of the games at https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/collection/free-game-collection.
