The 8-bay Synology DS1817+

Synology's broad range of consumer, SOHO and enterprise network addressed storage solutions are some of the best one the market right now, but no matter how robust the design and manufacturing electronic devices will always have some small chance of failure. With this reality and the needs of their customers in mind, Synology have been offering extended warranties in certain regions and on specific NAS products for some time, covering those potentially affected by component failure beyond the normal three years. Now they have opted to also offer such warranties in the UK, Ireland and Nordic nations.

Currently three models will be part of this extended warranty program: the DS1517+ and DS1817+, and their DX517 expansion module. These NAS solutions are all part of Synology's refreshed 2017 range and aimed at individuals and businesses with moderate storage needs. They support fifteen or eighteen 3.5" HDDs when paired with two DX517s (five and eight respectively without a DX517), and naturally are fully compatible with Synology Disk Management Software and the extensive features DSM 6.1 brings to the table.

Advanced use cases are also supported by these NAS models. The DRAM memory capacity of both the DS1517+ and DS1817+ can be expanded up to 16GB, and installation of the M2D17 expansion card can unlock high-speed read/write caching with the inclusion of an M.2 SSD.

Today's announcement of 27 countries being added to the Extended Warranty program brings the total worldwide up to 52. In the UK the cost of the program is £56 ex. V.A.T., whereas Ireland and Nordic regions are covered for €66. More information can be found at https://www.synology.com/en-uk/products/Extended_Warranty
