PRESS RELEASE
Milton Keynes, UK —June 28, 2011—Synology® Inc. is proud to launch its new xs series NAS servers, including 12-bay DiskStation DS3611xs and 10-bay RackStation RS3411xs/RS3411RPxs for large scale business.
“The xs series NAS servers are designed to scale up both storage capacity and performance in accordance with businesses’ growth,” said Derren Lu, CEO of Synology Inc. A single volume is expandable to over 100TB dynamically with expansion units via InfiniBand cables that carry12Gb/s SATA signal to ensure high-bandwidth connectivity. Performance throughput can grow from one 1Gb Ethernet connection to 4Gb Ethernet aggregations or even dual 10Gb Ethernet aggregations.
Compared with other head-on NAS servers, Synology xs series offers the most competitive cost/capacity ratio with USD0.25 per GB when paired with enterprise-class hard drives. “Synology transforms costly and unattainable technology into the xs series NAS servers that are economical and easy to approach,” Lu added.
Equipped with an Intel® Core™ processor, Synology xs-series NAS servers deliver data throughput in excess of 1,000 MB/sec and 100,000 IOPS with link aggregation enabled. “Intel is working closely with companies like Synology to provide key technologies for the growing business storage appliances segment. The Intel® Core™ processor family with Intel® 200 Series Chipset provides customers with energy efficient processors and data protection to grow with the end user demand for more disks,” said David Tuhy, general manager, Intel Storage Group.
Redundant power supplies are available on the RS3411RPxs and its expansion unit, RX1211RP, to ensure continual service uptime. System reliability is further reinforced by failover support on all network ports, hot-swappable drives design and expandable ECC RAM module.
Powerful and reliable as the xs-series NAS servers are, they consume up to 128W in operation and 78W when hibernated. Once Deep Sleep mode is enabled, the expansion units, including DX1211 and RX1211/RX1211RP, reduce up to 95% of power consumption.
With comprehensive iSCSI support, the xs series NAS servers seamlessly integrate with major virtualization servers, including VMware® vSphere™, Citrix® XenServer™, and Microsoft® Hyper-V™. In addition, the Windows® ADS and ACL support allows them to fit in a business environment easily and quickly.
Synology xs series NAS servers are powered by DiskStation Manager 3.1 (DSM 3.1), the operating system of every Synology DiskStation. DSM 3.1 makes complicated things simple and hard things possible by providing versatile features on a snappy, intuitive, and multitasking web-based user interface. Numerous notable media all over the world have praised or even awarded DSM, among which include the US Maximum PC Magazine, which named DSM as the “Future Tech Winner—Best Storage Technology of CES 2011.”
