Looks like Intel are being a little coy with us all when it comes to the launch of Haswell, the eagerly awaited next generation of their CPU line. Posting at 08:00PDT on the 26th, Becky Emmet at the Intel Newsroom unveiled this image:
In approximately 3,337,200,000,000,000 nanoseconds, Intel will reveal all there is to know about the highly anticipated 4th generation Intel® Core™ processor family. The new family of processors will surpass old technology expectations and usher in a host of striking new designs with incredible performance and extraordinarily long battery life. Stay tuned to the Intel Newsroom for more information as we get closer to the big day.
A little bit of mental math and you'll know this represents 38.625 days from the time of the posting, or in common parlance: 23:00PDT on the 3rd of June. Perhaps more importantly, this puts the finish of the countdown at 2PM local time on the 4th of June in Taipei. The date and time tallies nicely with the first day of Computex 2013, a major technology showcase event held in Taipei every year. If you're wondering, that's also 7AM GMT on the 4th in the UK.
Information leaks are all well and good, but it will be pleasant to hear straight from the horses mouth the details of the new architecture which has been on the radar for years. And then... we can all start looking ahead to Broadwell.
Unfortunately we don't yet know if the time will coincide with the official release date. At least this time around we're unlikely to see a staggered motherboard/CPU release.
