The DX10 setting is the only situation where the HD6970 becomes very competitive against the GTX580 but it’s not surprising that it still falls short by a few per cents given its much lower price point. The GTX580 also loses out by 17% to the CrossFired AMD mid-range cards. The GTX580 does provide a significant 24% boost over its predecessor.

Overclocked
The overclocked GTX580 extends its lead over the HD6970 by a marginal 1% but its advantage over thee GTX480 drops to 16%.

Tessellation performance is where Nvidia cards really shine, even though AMD have been hard at work improving their tessellation engine. In this case, the GTX580 still manages to outperform AMD’s flagship single GPU card by 33%. The difference is much lower against the CrossFire configuration at only 9%. Once again, the GTX580 proves to be an ideal replacement to the GTX480 by providing 18% better performance.

Overclocked
Overclocked, the GTX580 extends its lead over both the HD6970 and the GTX480.
