Thermal Paste
The Enermax cooler comes bundled with after-market Dow Corning thermal, similar to that found on the Corsair H100. At stock speed, the heatsink doesn’t seem to benefit from it compared ti the ChillFactor II whereas with the overclocked CPU, cooling is slightly better, suggesting better efficiency under high load.
Noise/Fan Performance
Generally, I’m not a big fan of high RPM fans because of the noise they produce and the fact that larger, quieter fans can achieve the same performance without the drawbacks. Unfortunately the Enermax ETS-T40 doesn’t support 140mm so better performance can only be achieved using faster fans. However, I was pleasantly surprised when testing the T.B.Apollish that the noise it generated at full whack was not synonymous to a jet fighter taking off. Although audible, it was by no means intrusive. The sound was more of whooshing of air against the heatsink with little motor noise. Ideally, quitter fans would still be preferable but PWM functionality ensures that. At 1155RPM, it was inaudible above my case fans.
