Power Consumption

Power Consumption is AMD's strong point and saving grace compated to Nvidia's offerings. The efficiency of the Cayman core is reflected in its low power consumption. Despite still being based on the 40nm manufacturing process and boasting 2.64 Billion transistors (0.94 Billion more than the HD6870 GPU), the HD6950 only uses 337.5W of power under load, a mere 16W more than the HD6870. Even after an 8% overclock, the load power consumption is significantly less than Nvidia's solutions. The HD6950 with its 200W maximum power consumption proves to be an attractive solution to those wanting high performance/watt ratio.
