Over on the side we have approximately 1.5cm in clearance between the motherboard tray and side panel. Do bear in mind though that this measure taken in the image below is inside
the cable management channel. Above this, there is no clearance for cables. So they have to be routed along this section.

With the CPU backplate cut-out being rather large this will certainly cater for any socket currently on the market. As you can see from the AM3 pictured, there is plenty of clearance here.
