One of the key problems Nvidia wanted to address with the smaller GF104 core was the high power consumption that previously plagued the Fermi GF100 core. The results show that Nvidia have achieved what they set out to do. Comparing it to the GTX465, it consumes around 7% less power at stock speed under full load. Disappointingly however, it is still slightly higher than ATI's HD5850. The good news is that overclocking doesn't have a big impact on load power consumption, ending up 15% less than the GTX465 and 10% lower than the HD5850. The latter two cards had the disadvantage of being overvolted but it's welcoming to see the GTX460 being an overclockable card without a tremendously adverse effect on power consumption.
