AMD announces the availability of two new second-generation Ryzen Threadripper processors – the 2970WX 24-core, 48-thread processor and the 2920X 12-core, 24-thread processor. Announced earlier this month, the Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX, with its class-leading core count, is built for the heaviest workloads making it perfect for workstation use by demanding professionals. The Ryzen Threadripper 2920X offer enthusiast and gamers higher performance than the previous predecessor for smooth gaming experiences at $649. Both the 2970WX and 2920X processors offer up to 32% faster performance in ray-tracing, and 60% faster encryption for creators compared to the Intel Core i9-7960X and Intel Core i7-7820X respectively.
Dynamic Local Mode
The Ryzen Threadripper WX processors, a key new feature is Dynamic Local Mode (DLM) software, which optimizes application performance by ensuring the most demanding threads always receive preferential time on cores with local memory. This feature is automatically configured by downloading AMD Ryzen Master on Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX or 2970WX systems. Check out the AMD Ryzen Master software here.
Dynamic Local Mode measures CPU time of active threads and ranks active threads from most to least demanding. It then automatically migrates the most demanding threads to dies to local memory access. This accelerates lightly threaded and latency intensive applications without impact to heavy multi-threaded tasks. Dynamic Local Mode results in an average of 15% performance improvement in applications like SPECwpc benchmark as well as games including PUBG, Far Cry 5 and Alien: Isolation.
This holiday 2018 season, AMD partners with motherboard manufacturers including ASRock, ASUS, GIGABYTE and MSI to offer holiday bundles starting from $199 when paired with Ryzen Threadripper processors. More information on the bundle programs coming soon from the partner brand’s websites.
