Product on Review: Ryzen 7 1700
Manufacturer: AMD
MSRP: UK: 319, US: $329

The Ryzen 7 1800X is a CPU aimed at the prosumer and the enthusiast, its performance and pricing hit a spot that has really shaken the market up. Though, that isn't the end of the Ryzen 7 story. For the workstation, the 1700 comes in at a very affordable £319 and still features 8 cores, 16 threads of impressive computing power to crunch your multi-threaded workloads. It has a base clock frequency of 3GHz, with a turbo to 3.7GHz while preserving a low 65W TDP (Thermal Design Point), and low power use while retaining the huge multi-threaded advantage. The 1700, when paired with an X370 motherboard also provides that additional performance bump supplied from the extended frequency range technology, rewarding those using enthusiast cooling.

The 1700 has been priced to compete against the i7 7700K, a highly clocked 4C/8T interim CPU from Intel. Gamers may ask, what are the benefits of having more cores at a lower speed? One of the primary examples AMD put forward is that the additional cores provide a flawless streaming experience. Though, the fun doesn't stop there, as the entire Ryzen line up have their multipliers unlocked for the confident user to take advantage of. As the 1700 features Pure Boost technology, the clock speed can be adjusted in increments of 25MHz, allowing you to get the most precise clock speed out of your CPU (dependant on CPU/cooling).
